Why Do We Decorate Our Beehives?

Of course we love to see these beautifully decorated hives in our yard, but that's not the only reason we decorate each hive uniquely.

We LOVE to spend time as a family each painting our own decorations on the boxes so we have special memories to share together each time we go to the bee yard.

Also, we believe it helps the bees to identify which hive is theirs when they return home with a load of pollen or nectar. (science debates this, but it's fun to think about)

Have you ever wondered why some beekeepers DON'T wear gloves?

For me it's all about how gentile I can be with my bees.

When I have my bulky bee gloves on, it's difficult to know when I've crushed a bee when I pick up frames.

Crushing bees is a good way to make the whole hive mad and end up getting stung. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

SO, I don't wear gloves because I want to DECREASE the chance of getting stung. I can be a LOT more careful with my bare hands so there is less chance of making the girls mad. ๐Ÿ˜ก

Did you know a queen bee can lay up to 9,000 eggs on 1 frame?

That means, in a standard 10 frame box she could lay 90,000 eggs!

That's a LOT of baby bees.
